Last night Kate Voegele kicked off her fall tour in Cleveland at the House of Blues. What a great place to start a tour, her home town. She seemed so happy and excited to be back in Cleveland.
Kate rocked the stage with her band and played the guitar for nearly every song. She also played a few acoustic songs. Voegele has an incredible voice and when she sings acoustically you really get to a chance to hear her talent.
Kate and her band played songs from both her old and new album. The new album is titled “A Fine Mess”. “Lift Me Up”, “Angel” and “Who You Are Without Me” were just a few songs included in the set list last night. An enthusiastic version of “Inside Out” was played early on in her set.
I was happy to hear my personal favorite Kate Voegele song, “Only Fooling Myself”. The live version of this song was even better than the album version. Kate ended the show with an encore which included her hit song “99 Times”.
Every song Kate performed was full of energy and excitement. It shows that she truly loves what she does. It’s also very inspirational to see someone so young that has been so successful in pursuing her career.
Kate thanked the audience, her friends and family several times throughout the night. She seemed truly appreciative to all her fans that were at the House of Blues. Last time Kate was in town she played in the Cambridge Room. Last night she played in what she called “the big room”. I’m pretty sure that things will keep getting bigger and better for Kate Voegele.

Fans of the CW’s “One Tree Hill” are in for a double treat this fall. With the drama’s seventh season currently filming, its musical voice, Mia Catalano, is both on the show and on the road in the flesh as Kate Voegele, who plays the singer-songwriter, tours to promote her sophomore album, “A Fine Mess.”
“They go hand in hand; it’s not like it’s different entities,” the 22-year-old Voegele tells Billboard.com about balancing the acting and music gigs. “(The CW) does such a good job of promoting the musical thing I’m doing. What’s been incredible about the show is they really have been so accommodating of the fact I’m a musician first, and they give me time off if there’s a tour like this or I have something else to do. Those guys are really the reason I’m able to do both and not go crazy.”
Voegele kicks off her latest tour on Wednesday (Oct. 7) in her home town of Cleveland. “A Fine Mess” came out in May and debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200. She and her band have been preparing for the 30-show trek, which wraps up Nov. 15 in Chicago, and Voegele says she’s looking forward to having a larger body of work this time. combining the “A Fine Mess” songs with selections from her 2007 debut “Don’t Look Away” and also throwing in a few covers.
“I’ve always had a bazillion songs in my archive, but I want to play people stuff they know,” Voegele explains. “Now that I have two albums’ worth of material, that gives me freedom to compose a set that’s more well-balanced and build a show rather than just a recital of some songs. The set’s going to have highs and lows. More than anything I want to get up there and hang out with the audience, make everybody feel like it’s fun and they’re involved and are just, like, friends hanging out in somebody’s living room. I went to see Carole King on her Living Room Tour, and that’s the kind of feeling I’m aiming for.”
Voegele will also be doing a bit of charity work with the tour. Her sponsor, the online University of Phoenix — through which Voegele is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in psychology — is contributing up to $50,000 to the Council of Greater City Schools, which serves 66 large city school districts around the country. The school will donate $1 for every one of Voegele’s fans that texts a certain number, pledging support for public education.
“It’s something cool that promotes a good message,” Voegele says. “It’s awesome when you have a platform like this and can be in front of a bunch of people and promote a message other than, ‘Hey, buy my CD! Watch my TV show!’ It’s something that will make the people in the audience feel like they’re part of something.”

If you’ve watched One Tree Hill recently, the long running prime time soap opera on the CW network, you’re already familiar with singer-songwriter Kate Voegele, who plays an up-and-coming musician on the show. Or maybe you heard her on the radio; Voegele’s second studio album, A Fine Mess, produced by superstar producer Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor), came out on MySpace/Interscope Records in May.
In a new interview posted on her YouTube channel, Voegele, who has referred to Diane Warren as her hero, discusses the art of songwriting and gives props to Patti Griffin.
“Songwriting is really about experiencing emotion,” she says, “and sort of putting into words what you’re going through, or what somebody else is going through. I’m just very inspired by what goes on in my life.”
“Growing up, I listened to a lot of Carole King and James Taylor, because my parents love those artists, but mainly Patty Griffin influenced me a lot. Her first record, Living With Ghosts, is just unbelievable, and the songwriting is so raw. The record is just her and a guitar, the entire time. And that’s what I love about it. She can go live with a band and rock it out, but they almost don’t need it, because its already there.
Voegele also admits to letting her studies slip in pursuit of the pefrect rhyme. “I write on the plane, I write in the middle of the night. I used to write in Math class in high school, so the process is really pretty scatterbrained.”
The 22-year old artist also discusses her lucky set up on the show. “One Tree Hill has been great for me because my character Mia’s whole storyline is focused around music, and Mia music is my music. So it’s pretty awesome that the writers have taken it upon themselves to make me a storyline primarily about the music. And since music is my main love and is my main focus right now, it’s helpful, and I’m sure in season 7 we’ll be doing a lot more of that.”
